Next steps for K2 as Sweden’s national knowledge centre for collective mobility

Starting in 2025, K2 will embark on a new phase as Sweden’s national knowledge centre for collective mobility. With new funding commitments from Swedish national authorities, research organisations, and public transport agencies, K2 will continue to produce and share knowledge closely aligned with industry needs.

In this next phase, K2 will broaden its focus from public transport to collective mobility, adopting a more holistic perspective on shared transport systems. Traditional public transport will remain the backbone, but other forms of shared mobility solutions will also be integrated into the research.

Welcoming Helena Svensson as the New Director

K2 is pleased to announce Helena Svensson as its new Director. Helena has a solid and extensive background in public transport, holding a PhD from Lund University Faculty of Engineering since 2003. Her career spans roles as a transport planning consultant, researcher and lecturer at Lund University, as well as K2’s education manager. After serving as Acting Director since mid-2024, she now officially takes on the leadership role.

“I look forward to continuing the work in this new role and leading K2 through a phase where we strengthen our mission to provide a platform for collaboration, both among researchers and between research and practice. Our goal is to better meet the knowledge needs of the industry, and I hope that both researchers and practitioners will contribute to this effort”, she says.

Become a K2 Researcher

To further strengthen its research environment, K2 is now opening applications for researchers from all Swedish research organisations. As a K2 researcher, you will be part of a dynamic research environment with a range of benefits, including:

  • Contacts and dialogue with researchers from other organisations and disciplines with similar interests.
  • A context in which you can exchange experiences and collaborate with practitioners in collective mobility.
  • Enhanced dissemination of your research findings through K2’s established channels.
  • Funding and co-funding for research projects, as well as support for external applications through K2's brand.
  • Access to a centrally located office in Lund.

As a K2 researcher, you are expected to be an active researcher affiliated with an established research organisation in Sweden, conduct research relevant to collective mobility, and actively participate in K2’s research environment. Applications are open to both new applicants and those previously affiliated with K2.
