Publishing results
As a K2 researcher, you have several opportunities to publish and share your research findings. In addition to scientific journals, we offer various publication formats that make research more accessible to both academia and practitioners. Our report series and fact sheets target different audiences and aim to translate knowledge into societal impact. We also encourage new initiatives and collaborations—do you have an idea for a publication? Get in touch!
Publication formats at K2
Research findings from K2 can be published in the following ways:
- Scientific journals
- K2 report series (K2 Outreach or K2 Working Paper)
- K2 fact sheets (Public Transport Research in 5 Minutes)
K2’s publishing policy provides guidelines and criteria for publishing research within K2, along with an overview of the publication process.
Scientific journals
Research findings should primarily be published in scientific journals, preferably with open access, where manuscripts undergo the standard peer-review process. Publishing in high-quality scientific journals should be prioritised. To assess journal quality, K2 follows the ranking system of the Norwegian Centre for Research Data, known as the “Norwegian list.”
K2 encourages co-authorship with researchers from international academic environments as part of our internationalisation efforts. Once the article is published, a link should be sent to info@k2centrum.se.
K2 report series
K2’s report series and fact sheets are primarily intended for materials developed within K2’s project activities. In some cases, other materials may also be published if they are relevant to K2’s work or target audience.
You can initiate the process of writing a report yourself. For K2 Outreach and fact sheets, you should contact K2’s communication manager at the idea stage, well before starting the work. For K2 Working Paper, you can submit a manuscript directly, which will then undergo a quality review by K2’s research leaders.
When should you publish in K2’s report series?
- If the topic is new or specialised and lacks established scientific publication channels.
- If the publication has an interdisciplinary character.
- If the study is extensive and requires a longer report format.
- If the primary audience is outside the academic community.
K2 Outreach – Popular science overviews for the industry
K2 Outreach summarises research findings in an accessible format for industry professionals. Publications are written in Swedish and should be clear, well-structured, and tailored for a broader audience. Read more in K2’s publishing policy and consult the guide K2 Outreach – How to Write for practical tips and guidelines.
K2 Working Paper
K2 Working Paper typically presents results from specific projects. These publications serve as a complement to scientific journals rather than a final output—the aim is to further develop the content into a scientific publication. K2 conducts an overall quality review, but you are responsible for the scientific and linguistic quality. Read more in K2’s publishing policy.
K2 Fact sheets
K2 Fact sheets summarise research findings in a two-page format, targeting stakeholders in collective mobility. They are written in Swedish and highlight key conclusions from one or more K2 publications. The selection of suitable reports for this format is determined by the communication manager in consultation with the director.
Other publication types
We also support other types of publications beyond our standard report series. Do you have an idea? Get in touch—we particularly encourage collaborations and joint publications across different K2 projects
